  • Hi Kuser Kats!!

Well, we did it!!  We made it to the end of the year and through three months of remote learning.  I know none of us expected the school year to take the turn it did, but we persevered.  I am very, very proud of you!

While the year was not what we originally had planned, I am looking at the silver lining, and I think there are several.  First, we got to spend a lot more time with our families.  We also got to learn some incredible new tech skills that we will be able to use from now on. Finally, we have proven our mettle (that means show just how tough we are)  in a difficult situation that forced us all to adapt and change at lightening speed.  After this year, everything else might just seem easy!

Now it is time to take a much needed break.  I hope everyone has a relaxing summer.  Be sure to find something that interests you to read and study those math facts!

    Be safe! Have fun!

    Love,

    Ms. Herrington

  • Good Morning Kuser Kats!!

Can you believe it?! It's our last full week of school!  It may be tempting to slack off, but try to stay fully focused and attend all our groups.

Also, let me know how I can help you over the summer.  This school year was greatly interrupted by the pandemic, and I want to make sure you feel prepared for the next grade.  Talk with your parents and let me know what you think you may need.  I will do my best to assist you.

    Let's finish strong!!

    Love,

    Ms. Herrington

  • Hi Kuser Kats!

    Happy June!!

We made it to June!  We have just three short weeks of school left!

It was a busy weekend in the news.  My family spent the weekend watching the protests and the SpaceX Rocket launch and docking at the International Space Station.

If your family is participating in any protests, please be safe.  If you would like to check out the SpaceX mission, go to www.nasa.gove/nasalive/

Let's have a great week!  As always, let me know if you need anything!

  • Happy Tuesday!

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend.  The weather was perfect for relaxing. I hope you got outside for a change of scenery.

The long weekend also means that this is a shortened week.  Besides not having school Monday, the rest of our Basic Skills schedule will be the regular one.

    Let's have a super week!

    Love,

    Ms. Herrington

  • Hi Kuser Kats!

It was so strange to be at Kuser cleaning up our classroom on Thursday and Friday and to not see you. I'm glad I get to "see" you online!

This week is a short week.  We have a four day weekend for Memorial Day. So pay close attention to your schedule for any adjustments for our class and your homeroom class.

We will still be having our Kuser Get Spotted Game Night on Thursday at 6pm though! Just complete your assignments and "Get Spotted!"

    Have a great week!

    Love,

    Ms. Herrington

  • Happy Friday!

You did it!  You made it through another week of remote learning!  I hope you found that your routine felt a little more comfortable this week and your assignments were all completed!

Don't forget to check out my Question/Joke of the Day in our Google Classrooms too!  It's listed as a Question under the Classwork assignments if you don't see it in the class stream.

Have a great weekend!  Be sure to take time to make your mom or grandma a Mother's Day card.  Mother's Day is Sunday.  We usually go out to eat, but we are adapting our traditions to stay at home.

  • Good morning students and parents!

You may have heard that this is Teacher Appreciation week.  I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to all the parents who are helping us teach at home.  We can not do it without your support.  Kids- be sure to say thank you to your parents for all they are doing to help you through this very unusual time.

Don't forget to go on Google Classroom for all of your aassignments!  Remember you have to go into MY classroom to get your Basic Skills assignments.

  • Hey Kuser Kats!

Well, you probably heard the news.  We all learned yesterday that the Governor is keeping schools closed for the remainder of the school year.  I'm really disappointed I won't get to see you in person, but I am glad the Governor is putting your safety first!!

So, it is more important than ever that you are going online for your lessons each day!  You must come to our google classrooms.  If you are having any trouble, we are here to help.

We can do this!  We will come back stronger than ever if we work together!

    Have a super day!

  • Good morning Kuser Kats!

Welcome to the 7th week of remote learning! I hope you had a great weekend! The weather was really great, and I was able to spend a lot of time outside. I hope you were able to, as well.

Remember that you can find all of your assignments in our google classroom under the Classwork tab. After speaking with all of you at the end of the week, you let me know that you need more time for some of the assignments, so I have carried some of them over to this week!

Check out our question/joke of the day each day, too. I thought I'd try to add a bit of fun this week.

Have a super week! May the Fourth be with you!

Welcome to the Sixth week of Remote Learning!

I hope everyone is doing well!  I know we are all developing a routine day by day, but it still feels strange not to see you in person each day.

Please remember that all assignments are online now through google classroom; there are no further packets.  You must log on to our Google Classroom/Clever account for all of your assignments, including Basic Skills.

This week I am trying something new with video recording some reading assignments.  I want you to have as much flexibility with when you complete your work during the day as possible or needed.

    Have a super week!

You must must must check in to your Google homeroom and Basic Skills classrooms. This will be where your work is posted.

    Happy Monday!

I hope you all enjoyed your break!   It looks like we have a bit more time of remote learning, so we need to make the best of it. I need you to make sure that you start going into our Google Classroom every day.  There will be a post/ thread for you to comment that you are "present."  This is where you can also ask me for help.

I can set up a zoom meeting with you or a small group.

If you do not have a computer, you can borrow a chrome book through the district.  Call the school and leave a message for Mr. Kesting right away to make an appointment right away.

If you do not have Internet, you can get temporary free Internet.  Have your parents call 1 (866) 200-9522.

    Good morning!

I hope you enjoyed the gorgeous weather yesterday! And did you happen to see the full moon the last couple of night!  It is spectacularly bright!

Since we checked out nature on Monday and an art museum Tuesday, I thought I'd like to visit a world famous historical site, Machu Pichu in Peru.  It was build over 500 years ago by the Incas.  When you're finished, you can have fun checking out many of the other amazing sites on 360.

I hope you are enjoying Spring Break! Did you get to check out the Great Lakes?  I hope so!

Did you know that Ms. Herrington studied French for many years and was an exchange student? C'est la vertite!  While I cannot afford to visit France in person, I love that you can visit many of its famous sites online. France is especially known for some of its magnificent museum - its most famous being the Louvre.  You can visit more than a dozen of the Louvre's galleries here:

    https://www.louvre.fr/en/visites-en-ligne#tabs

There's something for everyone, whether you like Ancient Egypt or the Midevial times.  You can even see the old Moat (yes - think moat around a castle) that used to protect the Louvre.

    Enjoy!

    Love, Ms. H

Good morning and happy spring break!!

I hope you use this week to relax, rest up, and catch yourself up.  I know that's what I will be doing.

Normally during Spring Break, I would be taking little day trips with my children to the zoo or museums in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  Since that is not possible, we are going to try some of the virtual trips that are out there.  The fun part is that we can "go" a lot farther away through the computer.

    First stop: The Great Lakes

Did you know that Ms. Herrington has only been a New Jerseyan for 15 years? I've lived all over this country, but I was born in Ohio off Lake Erie.   Check out these videos to see some of the sights I grew up with.

    I hope you enjoy!

    https://www.greatlakesnow.org/educational-resources/virtual-field-trip/

If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see tomorrow, email me or comment through our Google Classroom!

    Good morning and happy Friday!!

You did it! You made it through 3 weeks of remote learning!  I know this was a huge change; it is a huge adjustment for teachers too.  I am so proud of you and all the work you have done and things you have learned.

Now you get to rest for a week!  Happy Spring Break! Normally we would be talking about the things we are going to go do, but this year we will have to find things to do at home. (And sleep - I plan on napping a lot!)  I will try to post activities in our google classrooms that you might be able to do FOR FUN. Fun only.  What?!  You aren't on our google classrooms yet?  Be sure to join!  I sent you an invite just look for it on your "classes" tab.  I also sent you the code on your homeroom teacher's stream.

    Have a super day!

    Good morning friends!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day!  All over the world people are wearing blue and lighting up buildings with blue lights to recognize the people in our communities who are on the Autism Spectrum.  We probably all know someone who has some form of autism.  Some things may be more difficult for them, but we want to make sure that we are helping them be a part of our communities.

If you are wearing blue today, post a picture and take #HTSDpride!

Please remember to join our google classrooms!  I can help you with any of your work!

    Good morning!

Can you believe it's the last day of March!

I took another webinar class yesterday to learn how to do all of this online teaching.  Today I take one about making youtube videos.  That way I can post videos showing you how to solve math problems or reading you a book. My daughter, Sondra, said she will also help me.  So please make sure you are logging on to our classroom!

5th grade friends, you have a daily Zoom meeting at 10 am.  Log on to any of the 5th grade team's classrooms for the Zoom code.  I'll see you there!

  • Good morning Kuser Cats!!

I hope you had a relaxing weekend.  We are starting our third week of remote learning.  You should be finding that more and more of your classes and groups are moving over to Google Classroom, and that is what we will be doing as well.  I will still be posting the assignments here as well to make sure everyone gets them - at least for the time being.

I bought a special camera to be able to show you and help you with more things like math problems from home.  I still have to figure out how it works, but that is my goal the next few days. Stay tuned!

Keep up the great work social distancing Have a super week!

    Good morning and happy Friday!!

You did it!!  You made it to the end of our second week of remote learning!  You rock!!  I am so proud of you for trying your best! Shout out to your families! I know they are working so hard to help you get through your school work! <3

Today is Kindness day for spirit week!  Post messages of kindness on all your social media platforms.  Send messages of kindness on our Google Classroom comments section!  Be extra kind to your families for doing everything to help you with this new learning from home!

I am asking all of you to start completing a checkin for attendance in our google classrooms.  Please do this even if you are completing your homeroom teachers work before getting to our small group work.  I want to make sure we have great communication, so I can help you in any way possible.

Get outside today!  The high temperature is 67. Tomorrow is going to be in the 40s.  EEK! It's okay with me, if it's okay with your families, to save some of today's work for tomorrow if it helps you get outside more today. We have to be reasonable since we are all cooped up at home for now.

Have a great day and weekend!

    Ms. Herrington

    Good morning!

I am very excited to learn how many of you were able to borrow laptops from school!  Now you all will be able to fully participate with your class and your lessons.

If you're just getting started and feel a little behind, don't worry.  We will help you get caught up!  Just take a breathe when you start to feel stressed out. I know adjusting to remote learning has been stressful at times for my kids - and me too!  (Be gentle with your parents too as they get used to it.)

If you get a phone call from an unknown caller today and tomorrow, it might just be me. I'm trying to get a hold of each of you to see how you're doing.  I really miss seeing you in person.

    You got this!

Happy Friday!  We made it through the first week of remote learning!  Hooray!  Even if it didn't feel smooth or you worried you missed something, I'm sure you did fine.  The important thing is that you started to get familiar with the Google Classrooms and your teacher websites.  I ask that you look for our google classrooms, Herrington Basic Skills.  I sent you all invites.

Today is going to be very warm!  I think it is a very good day to get some of your PE (gym) assignments done!  Try to get outside if possible, just remember to use safe social distance if you see friends also out. (6 feet or about 2 meters)

Today is St. Patrick's Day!  Be sure to throw on something green.  You know I am wearing my favorite green skirt with the horseshoes. Did you know that horseshoes have been considered lucky for a long time?!  They were made of iron which people thought kept bad things away!

    Good morning!

How are you today?  Did you have a nice weekend?  Is your family ready to practice social distancing?

Like most people, I did not go out this weekend with friends.  I stayed at home with my family.  The weather was nice so we spent some time outside together.

Today is my daughter's birthday! She turned 10! So we will be celebrating with some cake.  We are going to wait until summer to have her birthday party with friends.

    Big virtual hugs!
