Please continue to check your child's take home folder every day. It is important to keep up with notes, homework and school/classroom events. Please keep in contact with me through email, notes, or phone if you have any questions or concerns.
Math
Please work at home practicing multiplication and division facts. Now that we have learned all the facts it is important to gain fluency. We will begin to have weekly timed quizzes to help with this. Also, encourage your child to use strategies we have learned to solve problems, such as drawing a picture, array, etc.
Reading
Trimester 1 is focused on fiction. Students should be applying skills we have learned such as finding character traits, sequencing events and comparing and contrasting story elements, to their own reading. Please keep up with reading logs each week. Students should be reading at least 15 minutes per night and responding to the text.
Writing
We are continuing to write fiction stories. We have completed our Fairy Tales and are applying what we’ve learned to create fall themed stories. Keep practicing tying at home as we are beginning to type our final drafts.
Social Studies
No Social Studies is being taught at this time.
Science
We have just begun our unit on Plant and Animal Life Cycles and Ecosystems. Students will be researching different habitats and adaptations. They will be creating projects with peers to present their research. Then, we will explore different life cycles and understand how these plants and animals survive. We will be growing a classroom tadpole to observe life cycles.
